If your GL1000 / GL1100 alternator drive shock absorber rubbers have turned rock hard and disintegrated ( they all do!) and you have given up trying to source new ones, the GL1200 unit, which uses springs instead of rubbers, will fit. The 1100 and 1200 chains are the same width (all the primary chains are the same length) and part number so a direct fit, the 1000 chain is narrower so needs to be positioned centrally on the alternator drive sprocket. If you use the 1200 chain in the 1000, the surrounding oil catch trough needs to be discarded, as it was in the 1100.
This info is thanks to Paola, who was having problems with her local mechanics and tried this after I suggested it MIGHT work.

Good information to keep track of. If pictures are available, I can add it to shop talk.

Old, I found what I think you’re talking about ( parts 6 & 7 ?) on Partzilla but they show as unavailable, maybe through David Silver or CMSNL

Re: GL1000 / 1100 alternator drive
So on earlier bikes it is number 5, two of them. It gets replaced with 11 of number 7 and two of number 6. If this is correct, I can update Shop Talk.

Although I have not tried it, I doubt it's that easy. I think you need the whole unit.Fred Camper wrote: ↑Wed Aug 20, 2025 9:12 am So on earlier bikes it is number 5, two of them. It gets replaced with 11 of number 7 and two of number 6. If this is correct, I can update Shop Talk.
Although the parts are just about as non-available as the rubber buffers in the early one, springs are not going to turn into lumps of carbon like those do.
I've been meaning to buy a 1200 unit and see just what the story is, just not got around to it yet.
