Engine smooth running
When I brought my goldwing I sorted the engine, tightened the loose alternator bolt. Then started to ride, but found when openning up to overtake then shutting down, then accelerate again the bike wouldn't pull. It just choked and sputtered for a few minutes. I know the bike had been standing for quite a while so me thinks it was the carbs being grotty. I was ready to clean them which I should of done when I had the engine out but forgot. I read somewhere that put 1 litre of autotrans fluid(the red stuff) in with a full tank of fuel and it will clean the carbs. Well hey ho I tried this and it worked, no more sputter sweet running. I now do this to all my bikes and once a year. It does when start from cold blow out white smoke for a few seconds but was told about that and after a tank or two it goes. I have done 4 thousand miles and still perfect, so carb cleaning job is back on the shelf, great. Hope this helps anyone. Lee

Mixing ATF (Automatic transmission fluid) OIL with the fuel ??????
That's a new one.
..who 'recommended' you to do that ?
..was it explained how the oil was supposed to clean the carbs ?

I have wracked my brains and can't remember where I heard it from. All I know I tried it and it worked as described in the article. My goldwing worked fine during and better after with no spluttering since so its only a suggestion to try.

Thanks
Thanks for the reply I would hate people to think I was going mad because it has helped my Wing. I did pour it in prior to a longish journey so it wouldn't settle if it does I never found that out. It just made things run better.

Well this is getting alot of attention, all I know that as the article said the only thing different is you get white smoke for a few seconds on cold start. I know it works and cleaned my carbs out so I can only put the idea forward. Give it a try with less ATF if in doubt. I went on another forum page and one of the members was stripping down the carbs, seemed alot of work to me. So being the type of guy who wants a less stressful life I decided to give it a go. TADAAAA ! it worked and haven't touched the carbs in 5,000 miles.
