False tank reconstruction...

Yesterday I broke down a bit more than I had to when replacing throttle cables....now im trying to reassemble everything. i had thought that it was good idea to remove the lid from the false tank; i thought it needed to be done, it wasnt until after the fact i realized thats not the case...
so im trying to put the lid back on the false tank. that slide is a pain. if anyone has a moment can they take a picture of the inside of the lid?
From what I gather, I should have the lid reconnected then drop the fuel gauge back in place. but the slider with the cotter pin giving me troubles
the arrow points to what i need picture of. any advise for the cotter pin? (id like to see it assembled and then see if i can see where the washer goes. i know the plastic washer goes over the end and then cotter gets inserted there.
