I am new to the site, but I have to say as soon as I saw a naked goldwing I knew I would own one soon. I am looking at an 84 aspencade. I want to remove the plastic and make it look right .
Will any of the standard goldwing parts from the same year just bolt on? Is the frame exact?
Also, I am curious about how much weight is lost when all of the extras are removed.
First Boulman , Welcome to out site . 1984 is the last year of our great bikes in standard form untill the up to date Valkrie . What you may want to do is compare from ouners manuals the difference in wieghts from each bike and there you have it . But my 82 GL 1100 std. is the 82 Interstate says 679 lbs. and the standard is 595 lbs. those are dry wieght . so just over 80 lbs. not to much difference eh . I allways thought more . I replaced my exhaust alone and saved I think three times the wieght . So you'll save more wieght in aftermarkets parts , depends on what you want to do after you stripp yours down . Do you want to stay stock or go custom ? So many ideas in our photo albums . Get back to us , we are all here to help . Stop in often as well with a few of your oun thoughts . Later Friend .

Hello and welcome aboard BOULMAN, we all love naked Goldwings.

The frame is exact, and many parts will fit stright in, but some parts
from the Standard don't fit.
Example: The ear for mounting the head light don't fit a Aspen/Interstate fork.

When I saw that street fighter 1200 I knew I was going to get a naked wing. I hope to find one and use that bike as my inspiration. That bike is one of the best bikes I have ever seen.
Yes Boulman , I love that Streetfighter , if I had to start again I would model mine after that Bike . I particularly like how he has his rear side frame extentions hiden by that stainless steel or is it chrome knife like apaturs there beside and ongoing from the rear shocks .
Later Gents .
Is the 1200 a big increase in performance and handling? What kind hp are we talking about. I currently have a cb750c and love it, but it is to small for my wife and I to ride comfortably. I want to get(customize) a bike that is more comfortable, has more power and has the "street fighter look".
I found a quite noticably difference from when I changed from my 77 GL 1000 to the 82 GL 1100 std. So the change to the GL 1200 I would think is a great change and if I had a chance that is another modification I would do to my GL is put a 1200 into my 1100 frame . Later Eh ?
Is the only difference between the gl1100 and 1200 just the engine? I have just begun looking and I want a 1200. If the engine is only the difference I can always add performance mods to accomplish that.
The 1200 is quite different to the 1100. There are not many parts that are interchangable. The 1200 engine will however fit the 1100 chassis, but I am not sure if teh gearing would be OK though.
Dougal
They say WHY?, I say why not.
If God had intended motor cycles to be standard, he would'nt have given us the hacksaw.

There are a lot if difference between GL11 and GL12!
The frame, wheels, suspension, front forks, final drive, brakes
+++ more are different. The GL1200 is a little bit longer than
the GL1100.
