gl1200 cams

#1

Post by burl745 »

hi everyone. i own a 1984 1200 standard that i got this past fall and have been giving her a head to tail once over. she has 67,000 miles on it so i thought i'd take a peak at the heads and am glad i did. one of the cams were pretty worn with scarring across all the lobes. one of the intake valves was very worn and not seating well at all. funny, the darn thing rode like a dream all last fall and would never have known till it got too late. any ways as i got to looking for new cams so i could get the heads redone, honda informs me that the cams, valves and valve guides are out of production. and as of now i've had no luck in finding them any where. so i would really appreciate any help on finding a reliable source for these parts. honda is no help in this matter. thanks roy

Left camshaft part number is 14211-MG9-000
right is either 14111-MG9-000 or 14111-MG9-951

If you live in teh USA try Western Hills Honda in Cincinatti (001-513-662-7759)or if in the UK try Dave Silver spares on 01728 833020.

thank you all for your prompt responses and welcome to this incredible wing site. i will call western hill honda today and hopefully will track down these parts. i undrstand there has been a huge run on these parts in the last 6 months due to their not being manufactured any more. so the search has been rather exasperating to say the least. and its been holding up this project to no end. so once again isay thanks and i'll let you know how i did and what i found out in general. if this comes up blank i'll check out the site in the U.K. hey its spring...... lets go ridin roy

thanks for the parts #s Dougal. so far no luck. i called western hills and went to CMS to no avail. i just e-mailed david siver in hopes of finding these parts. as you know, no cams, no valve guides, no motor. no motor, no ride, no happy face. waaaaaaaaaa!!!! alright i'm better now, just had to get it off my chest. so if any one knows where i can score these parts either new or good used let me know. hey ho Timber! i really appreciate you steping up and talking to Ty for me. as of yet i have had no luck and have gone to every web site suggested and a couple more i made up for chuckles. my mechanic is on the prowel also with multiple honda dealer searches and pleas to the rice gods. we even are searching for good used parts. we did find a guy in florida who has 3 whole 1200 motors and are trying to get him to do something on the idea of a head swap or something, but to date we still haven't scored. SO.......yes,yes, oh lord ,yes if i haven't come up with anything by friday i would absolutey be indebted if you would contact Ty and he could maybe guide me to these rare and exotic camshafts. I AM DYING TO GO RIDING!!!! thanks for listoning to my rants ROY

Yo Big T!!!! I found a set of used cams through cycle salvage. they found a dealer in alabama that had what they say is a real good set of cams for the 84 GL1200. $150 for the set. i can't beleive it. i am psyched!!!! they will be shipped up to cycle salvage in Ct. for inspection then sent on to me. thank you agin for your suggestions and leads and thank you to each and every one of you fine people at NGW. THERE CAN'T BE ANOTHER SITE WITH THIS MANY EXCELLENT WINGERS THAT ARE SO INCREDIBLY FRIENDLY AND KNOWLEDGABLE. i will keep all posted as the project progresses and hope to get some photos up as soon as she's all back together. i'll be riding soon.
