What the procedure for getting it from the booth to the oven.
Do you use a different wire to hang the parts.
Does the powder come off the parts easily before it is baked.
What is the stink factor, will the wife get cranky from the smell.
Thanks, Ken

First off thanks for reading the post and the kind remarks.

I hung the part on a wire then hung that wire on one in the "powder booth". That is the one I put the ground clip on and it stuck up through the box.
When I was done with the first part I removed it and hung it on a coat hanger while I did the second one using a different wire hanging from the one in the booth. After I finished the second I CAREFULLY hung them in the over on the bent wire next to the thermometer. I practiced this before I powered them so I knew how they would hang and that They would not touch anything in the oven.

The powder comes off fairly easily if bumped but I read that one guy pre melted his powder with a heat gun if he couldn't bake them that day.

I didn't notice the smell but I used an old toaster oven that I should have cleaned before baking these. I did it in the basement and the smell didn't linker long.

You can not use a food oven for this because they say the fumes will contaminate the food!

It was fun and I plan on doing lots more but clean up is a mess. I wiped down all I could but inside the gun and the siphon tube had to be blown out which I did outside in the cold rain because this stuff goes everywhere!!

I worked for a powder-coating place and the big secret is "get the part clean" When you think it's clean enough then clean it again. We would chemical wash the parts that were in the presence of oil then rinse in clean water then bake then in the oven then back into the chemical strip and repeat with the clean water and then bake and cool...powder-coat and bake the powder on. Most everything was bead blasted in a cabinet. The compressed air went through a refrigerant dryer to insure there was no water or oil coming out of the gun onto the part. We had several cabinets that used different media depending on what metal you were blasting.

The powder-coat industry has a product similar to bondo but it is comprised of metal particles that will conduct electricity and withstand 400 degrees for up to a half an hour. Don't confuse the product called ALL-Metal bondo with the one I'm talking about..it will not work. I wish I could remember the brand of the product. I can only remember it was made in Europe and very expensive...like $60.00 a half liter. The owner of the powder-coating shop use to keep it under lock and key and we used it very sparingly.

Adding to the mystery of how to achieve a quality finish on the piece is the fact that not all powders are not equal in results. We bought from three different supplies and some colors came out better among the three brands. So by trial and error we learned which supplier had the best red...green...blue...etc.
