HOW TO LOWER FRONT & REAR ON A '77 GL 1000?

#1

Post by Paxton Gomez »

I really would want to know what parts, tools and specific procedures are involved in a do-it-myself lowering of my
'77 GL 1000 by say, 2, 4, 6, 12 inches? :P :roll: :shock: ;)

docc :

I tried the link you provided and could not find any EMGO short-shock
specific applications for any GL's!

I have 2 sets of shocks at hand and wonder if either set would fit my '77
while lowering it some. They are: A. '81 GL 1100 Stock Rears;
and B. '82 1100 Air Shocks for rear.

I think I am gonna play with those and see wnat happens! :shock: :idea:

I was linking the procedure to lower the front. The rears are simply shorter shocks. Progressives come in many lenghts..just order the spring lenght.

I just bought some 12.5" progressives off ebay..as low as I want. I am trying to improve handling. I think a little lower rear and a slight front weight bias may give me what I want.

I will be playing with the ride height and bias..front to rear height.

Hey PG, Niether Of Those Will Work For You, The 1100 Rear Shocks Are Eye To Eye, The 75-77 GL1000 Shocks Are Eye On Top And Fork With Bolt On The Bottom, Now If You Figure Out How To Make Some Sort Of Mout For The Lower Then You Could Use Any Eye To Eye Shock Made, Be It For Car Bike Harley It Would Not Matter At That Point..... Hope This Helps

If You Change Out Your Front Springs With The Progressive's, Go With The Shorter Ones, The Rear Could Be Droped All But 3" Off The Ground, You Need To Maintain The Lean And Ground Clearence, My 75 Is About 3 Inces From The Ground And 1/2 Off The Rear Fender At The Bottom Of My Rear Shocks, But I Have Older Monroe Air Shocks On Mine, My 76 Is About 4" Off The Ground And Bottoms Out On The Rear Fender If I Hit Too Big Of A Bump, It Has New Progressive Gas Shocks, But Heres A Link To A Make Shift Lowering Device That You Can Make To Bring The Rears Up Higher..... http://www.ngwclub.com/gallery/lowering-gl-ideas
