Manliest Restaurant in America

The Hilltop Inn in Evansville Indiana has been crowned the "Manliest Restaurant in America." The title was earned from their Brain Sandwiches. Yes Real Brains. Not sure I would want to try one.

I wouldn't either Steve. I don't eat brains, lamb fries (battered deep fried testicles), or Sushi.

In fact, I'm pretty sure there's a lot more out there that I won't eat than I will.

I'll eat just about anything. I liked the brains and eggs. And the brainburger. I guess it depends on how things are prepared.

Other things I've tried and liked:
Sushi (of course)
Sea slug
Tongue
Tripe
The meat list goes on.

All veggies and fruits are okay with me.

But no lima beans!! NEVER!

I've had the brains and eggs... pretty good. Tastes like a really mild chorizo.

That's probably the weirdest thing I've eaten... except maybe cow tongue.

I've had all the weird sushi stuff too; horse sashimi was the only thing I couldn't stomach. I took a bite and it came right back out.

Wierd stuff we've eaten----let's see

In Okinawa '78 - '79
Dolphin
Whale
Tongue (of what I don't know)
Dog (yes Fido)

In the States
Sushi (all of it - love it)
Mountian oysters (bull balls)
Raw oysters

Guess that's about it. One thing I do think IMHO is that ANYTHING probably taste good if it's cooked correctly.

Dog, by the way, tastes like beef. I can't tell the difference.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prion - Rodger, would you care to boil that down for us mere mortals?

Dog made me sweat.

Rat was really tasty.

Mouse not bad, very oily but I think it was the prep.

Rattlesnake is gamey, tasted like sagebrush.

Gator tail, very good, but tough if prepped wrong.

Loved the beaver. action1 (someone hadda say it)

Here goes another longwinded one...sorry but you have to have the whole story to appreciate it.

My Grandmothers ran a country store...VERY COUNTRY store!!! Folks would come in and pay with "possums", "coons", fish whatever they happened to be catching or hunting. Gandma would cook it up and serve it to the family. It was ALWAYS pretty good but we seldom asked what it was...sometimes it is better NOT to know  ... So as far as strange stuff that I have eaten in my lifetime... WHO THE F*** KNOWS :?: :?: :?:

I live two doors down from my grandmother who lives next door to her store. Not long after me and the wife married... my grandmother called my house, the wife answers. Grandma says, "Tell Larry to come over here when he gets a chance and help me clean this cooter".
Let me pause here to have you ponder this for a moment
I am not sure what a "cooter" is in your neck of the woods... but in my wife's... ... ... ... Well let's just say it is female genitalia! So she begins to contemplate the mistake of marrying into this family! :-? Unwanted thoughts of me and grandma cleaning.... WELL you get the picture!
So when I come in she informs me word for word what was said. I turn to leave and pause and she runs into the back of me. I ask where she is going... and she says, I AM NOT SURE I WANT TO...BUT I HAVE TO SEE THIS FOR MYSELF!
Cooter in my wifes family had one meaning... but in grandma's it is a softshelled turtle. Here is a video of one digging a nest.

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2KhhRXFIEGc&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed>

If you have never seen one up close they are probably one of the ugliest creatures ever. And whoever decided to be the first to eat one was REALLLLLLL HUNGRY!!! Once one is cleaned...all that is there is leg meat and neck...but this adds up to quite a bit of meat from one that is bigger around than a number five wash tub...uhhhh...sorry 18-24 inches in diameter! The meat cooked in a pressure cooker for just a few minutes to tenderize and then battered and fried... and a thick gravy made from the frying grease and served over a bed of white rice... IS NOTHING SHORT OF WONDERFUL!!! :-D
The wife refused to try any...I think she was still traumatized by the thoughts

Mmmmmm. Had a gator tail appetizer in a restaurant down south once. Didn't know what I was eating but I ate the whole plate. I ordered another and was instantly sorry; $28 a plate.

Let's see now... I have traveled a bit in the Orient...

Chicken fingers (deep fried and breaded chicken feet)

Jelly fish (thought it was clear jello)

Raw Octopus, squid, and assorted, unidentified sea creatures

And a prank involving snake soup,at least that's what they told me it was - later, they told me it was actually chicken soup. I really don't understand Mandarin and they were sneaky when ordering.

My grand mother fed me mincemeat pie with brains, cow tongue and heart, rabbit, horse, tripe, and who knows what else?

And the strangest food I have ever seen, but not eaten, a pig womb. Maybe that's really a cooter?

But mostly, I really don't know why I try these things....

I've mashed brains (pig) into mush to tan deer skin but never licked my fingers after.

I took a freshly tanned hide into work and asked people what they thought it smelled like and they all identified it as "just plain leather" - it smelled just like brains.

I can still buy brains at the older supermarkets in the mexican neighorborhoods.
