Haven't been very active on here, Life got in the way in a big way...I ended up getting a divorce, which then meant we have to sell the house with the shop.
I have managed to secure a spot to bring my projects to live until I can get a shop again...Not sure which year that will be, but hoping for next summer.
I am currently living in a 5th wheel camper on a piece of property that will hopefully get a house on it by the end of this year. Nothing is cheap these days, and this will take most of what I have saved, and then some. I will try to stay active on here, but won't be wrenching on bikes in the foreseeable future.
Best of luck. My younger Brother split the sheets with his Wife 3 years ago and hopes to move into his new house this November. He is building his own on some family Property. Slow process when doing it on a shoestring budget. The structure is about 95%. When I was there for July 4th weekend everything was in primer and he was waiting for the cabinets to be delivered. After that he needs the new power feed from the street, power up to the well head, new water line from the well head and a the septic. About 14 months in now and he is getting close.

Sorry about the split after all those years. Ouch. I like your plan. I build my current house some 36 year back, Debbie was my electrician and more. Took us a year but it is now a very nice home for Christine and I. Cost $106K on a builders loan to build but right about $500K now according to Christine.

You already have a place to lay your head,
Build the shop first
Funny part about the county I am living in is this is the one I grew up in as a kid. They have changed a lot of rules in 20 years, and one of them is I have to build a house before I can have a shop, as I am on 9.1 acres, and would have to jump through 3 committees to approval. If I happened to have 10 or more acres, one piece of paper/one committee would have made that dream possible.
So, we are pushing forward to get a house before snow flies.
If this isn't a kick in the bxxls....Thought I had adequate storage procured in the way of an old family friend. Had her pole barn to use, so started putting stuff in the shed, and now get a message that she will be selling her house in March, and I need to move my stuff out. I close on my house next week, and still have a fairly good portion to move. So get to rent storage units, fill them up, and then empty out the friend's shed, and fill up more.
Some days I wish I didn't have so many hobbies, (aka stuff)...but then I wouldn't have anything to do.
Have you thought about renting pods? I admittedly don't know anything about costs or moving fees but it seems like less work by only having to move your stuff a couple of times. I just watched (and helped) my son move his entire household three times when he retired from serving in the Marines.

I had thought I could get storage containers and put them on our property, but seems the county has something to say about them sitting on there without a building permit. Once I can get a building permit, they claim I can have one container for a year.
My plan is to get a 40x60'ish "tent" that I could put the cars and trucks and tractors under, and then put two containers in the tent, and no one would know. Then one sitting out won't raise any flags.
Gotta love friends...have now 30 days to get things out of friend's polebarn...Her "friend" is selling his house, and buying hers, so I need to be out.
