Handlebar L/H wiring 1975 GL through the bars.

Post by dartman1962 »

Hi everyone.
I have to change my L/H handle bar switch & wiring.
I have managed to get the wiring out of the bars with some struggle.
I have a tracer wire ran when pulling through old wiring, it is pretty tight!
Before I try to pull through the new wiring through the bars.
Do you have any advice on how to pull back through? do I lube it up or?
Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks, Dartman

Yes, lube (they make a wire pulling lube, but it probably only comes in 5 gallon tubs - maybe you can find an electrician that will give you an ounce). Also, make sure nothing to catch on. Radius the handlebar holes to a very smooth finish.

When I had occasion to pull a wire bundle out of some bars, the sheathing was so mangled and stiff it just wouldn't go back in. I wound up cutting the old sheathing off and getting some new poly sheathing from Vintage Connections. Slithered right in.

I found dish soap helpful. Nice that you can wash it out but do not think soap causes any issues.

Got it done!
It was a little tight, but I perceived.
I put palmolive dish soap on the harness
I bought a NOS control a few years ago, as my housing cracked.

On a different note!
Anyone know of anyone running Delkevic exhaust.
I’m looking at the COM300D 4 into 2 stainless steel

Dartman, I had Delkevic cans on my 14 FJR, a little different than a wing but they are quality product. They had a nice low end growl that just disappeared with some speed, they just got quiet. Is your OE stuff rotted out ?

We are running a Delkevic system on a 75, but it has different mufflers than the one in your link. The one's on the 75 are a nice system, has removable baffles, which make it sound pretty nice.

They are not rotted out. They in really good condition.
I saw the Delkevic’s on a YouTube video, I like the way they look & sound kind of new retro without being noisy & over bearing.
Also the whole system looks like it only weighs 15lbs, compared to 40lbs on the old system.
