Final Drive Oil Capacity

#1

Post by bhschn »

Hello, I went to change my final drive unit oil tonight and could not get the big plug to break loose, slipped the wrench a couple of times and well you probably know the rest, my question is I want to fill it through the air breather on top doe's anybody know how much oil it holds, it did not drain a whole lot out, about 3.5 ounces is that all it holds or should it be more, 81 GL1100 Thanks, Bill.

Hello Bill,

I've got an 81 also. According to the shop manual the rear drive takes 140 - 160 cc or 4.73 - 5.41 oz of API GL-5 Hypoid SAE 90 gear oil.
