130 90 17 is my tire size on my 1980 GL1100. I wondered if a 140 80 17 tire would work on my bike.

Strange, here in Norway it was 140/90H16 for '82 and '83
and I know it was that in US and Canada too.

I think there was a problem getting 140/17 tyres in the UK. Either that or Honda UK didnt want to stock this size tyre and wheel combination.
Dont know the real reason why, but all 1100 models including the aspencade came with the same sized reverse comstar wheel fitted. Honda UK never officially imported an 1100 with the alloy wheels either.
They only imported the '83 Aspencade as well, we never got the Aspencade with the normal clocks and the compressor on the dummy tank lid. We didnt have many colour choices either, Honda UK only imported 1100 in teh the following coulours
'80 std and interstate maroon
'81 std and interstate maroon
82 std and interstate Winberry
83 std and interstate Winberry
83 Aspencade silver/grey

YES,THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH 17" TYRES IN THE UK TRY.........
EVEN NOW,TO GET A 17" IS DIFFICULT HERE.THEY ARE CLASSED AS AN ODDBALL SIZE,AND TEND TO COST MORE..

THE SIZES YOU GAVE FOR 80-81 FRONT+82-83FRONT ARE THE SAME SIZE ALMOST FOR MY HONDA CBX 1000.

THEY WERE 120/90/18REAR ON COMSTAR
AND 100/90/19 FRONT ON COMSTAR..

I BOUGHT AN ASPENCADE 1200 NEW IN 84,IT WAS IMPORTED.
THEY WERE LIMITED AS DOUGAL SAID.

LATER ALL..........

17 inch tyres difficult to obtain. Dont have any problem in the south of the UK. Avons make 2 different types and they are also avaible from other maunfacturers.
Different designs maybe, but all, or most modern sprts bikes come with 17" rims fitted.
