Quiet Your Jardines (Just enough...But not too much)

Post by dmsraz »

I while back in another topic I mentioned getting the Jardine 4 into 2 exhaust system for my 1977. And although the sound was incredible, it ultimately ended up being too loud for two up riding for long hours.

So I found a cheap fix that reduced the sound considerably, yet left a nice exhaust note somewhere in the middle of the noise spectrum between stock and non-modified Jardines.

I went to Home Depot and purchased a couple of 1-1/2" Sink Basket Strainers:

I trimmed approximately 3/32nds off the lip of the opening of each basket.

Then inserted each basket bottom first into each muffler at the front where the muffler attaches to the header. You will find it fits perfect right at the base where the header tale slides into the muffler.

Re-attach the mufflers as normal.

I have noticed the Pipes have just enough noise to be fun but not so loud I have to coast in late at night with the engine off.

Attaching another set of baskets on the tail end of the muffler quiets the bike even more but I took those off and opted for just a small rumble.

Anyways for what its worth I thought some other Jardine owner might find this useful.

Thats a pretty slick idea. They are probably stainless steel too so they should hold up pretty well.

Yes they are stainless, and seem to be holding up great!

Thanks Roady! They have a couple diameters if the sporters need something different.
