Tapered steering stem bearings

Post by Whiskerfish »

I have been doing some research on this for a current project. If I were going to convert a 75/76 or early 77 to a tapered bearing system you can not beat the prices for the kits sold by Z-1 and others. It includes both Races both Bearings and the spacer for $46.80 here: http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=1503 You can not source bearings individually for this amount.

If you need just one or the other bearing without the race you can get those for 20-25 dollars.

Researching this I came up with a variety of sizes for the bearings. Z-1 lists theirs as 26x48.5x15.2 upper and 30x50x14.4 lower. Now remember that the Z-1 comes with it's own races so these sizes are fitted to those races. The other sizes I came up with were 26x47x15 upper and 30x55x17 lower.

Bearing sizes are Inside diameter x Outside diameter x width

Those sizes cross to 32005 Upper and 32006 Lower Timken part numbers. FYI the Bearing Shop I went to today does not carry those sizes in stock but could have them in 1-2 days.

I have personally verified the upper is correct but not the lower yet.

Yes it must be 26mm ID. I corrected my post. ;)

I saw the post on the VFR Site but I was not certain that the sizes were correct for a wing until I did some more checking. They are.
