I am considering getting a 81 GL1100 Std. Its got 77K mi and is bone stock.Cosmeticly its all there with little rust but the paint is weathered. Any problems with these bikes? How much would you pay? Any info you can provide would be helpfull.

I bought a great 82 GL1100 standard in 2000, and it had about 25,000 miles on it at that time. I paid $2500 for it, and it was, in my opinion, in perfect condition. I still have it, and it is still great. In 2000, I took it from Kansas City to Kitty Hawk and back with no trouble. Last weekend, I took it on a 450-mile round trip with no trouble still. Many trips in between. Some parts seem hard to get, as with all older bikes, but there are a lot of salvage yards that will help out. The only other advice I'd give is that there are still a number of pristine standards out there. Don't feel you have to settle for one in bad shape. Hold out for a good one.

I have an 83 standard that had 56,000 on the clock. I paid $2300. You can see it in the member lounge. Put new timing belts, plugs, wind sheild, changed final drive oil, greased drive shaft, front and rear brakes, radiator flush with new hoses, used syn oil in the beginning now use Castrol 10/40 (she likes it better) and am in the process of replacing the front wheel bearings. I Love my wing.

Thanks for the info guys. I am trading another bike for it so shopping around isnt an option. I have been a motorcycle mechanic for 20+ years but I work mostly on sport bikes and race bikes so a wing is a bit unfamiliar to me. I was mainly wondering if they are known for having any cronic problem areas. Everyone I have asked so far says no.

built to last marko............
the wing engine must be one of the finest engines honda ever introduced........(my opinion)
(after all,bmw boxers have bin around since the war!)
bit more complex than the boxer, but the same principles i suppose..
if in your mechanical opinion it is sound, then you wont regret buying a wing............
parts are hard to find, but NOT impossible(we try our best+usually come up trumps!)
i, like yourself have had them all, but you cant beat the feeling of a wing...............
safe riding my friend+enjoy your stay with us........
