water temp sender - blinker probs

#1

Post by diptenkrom »

I have an 68 Aspencade, that i stripped down. Bike runs great, rides good. i have not done much work on it lately, as the bulk of it happened a few years back.

i have removed a lot of the excess factory wiring, and i have installed an aftermarket digital gauge. The gauge works, with 2 exepctions. 1 - 3rd and 4th gear indicators arent right, this i know how to fix. 2 the temp gauge isnt right. in further reesearch i have figured out the problem, but not sure what to do about it. The range of the factory temp sender is 104 - 16 ohms, and the gauge is designed for a range of 699 - 82 ohms. Anyone have any idea what sensor would work, or how to make the range of the factory one fit with resistors or something?

the second thing is, i installed LED blinkers on the bike. i got an LED flasher module, and when i plug it in, they dont flash. I have changed the switchgear to newer CBR ones, and went through the wiring diagrams and hooked up all the wires to the factgory harness from the actual plugs. i have no idea what to do to fix this. i have tried many times, and i do not want to completely re-run new wires for these.

For me the easy fix for blinkers was to put incandescent bulbs back in the rear blinkers. You cannot really save power on the rear blinkers as they are not on unless you are using a blinker. The rest of the day they are off and it solved my issue.

Seems you may need a new temp sensor but not an expert on what can work.

Yes, the alternator on 1000, 1100, and1200 puts out the power whether you use it or not. Any not used is dumped to ground by the regulator.

i didnt do LEDs to save power, but to have brighter lights that should last longer (also they are small and look better). also i got the LED flasher module that should operate LEDs properly, i wouldn't care if it fast flashed, at least it would be flashing, at this point, i have really expensive side markers.

Anyone know the temp sender thread size? I've got to try to replace it with a different ohm range, it would be easier to do if I could search by thread pitch/size. My plan now is just US Marine standard sender, and a ~50ohm resistor. This will not show the lower end temp range right, but I can see the mid-upper range properly.
