How do I transfer a photo directly from my PC to a post? I'm sure I've done it before but don't remember.

That used to be the only way but they added an easier method a year or so ago:
In Full Editor you can drag & drop 1 or more pictures into the text box. They won't appear in the text box but the Attachments menu below will open with those files listed.
