What is this and do I need it?
As the title says, what is this and do I need it? Came off '81 Standard with Vetter fairing.
Per the wiring diagram it might be the air indicator sensor or turn signal buzzer sensor or maybe the signal buzzer itself

Turn sig buzzer. Some work some don't. Not needed for the functional operation of the bike

Some of us forget and let the signal flash, so it can be helpful for folks that are busy looking at the traffic and scenery. Give it 12V and see if it peeps.

Very annoying sound, to me. There you are, sitting in traffic, at a very long left turn, having to hear that zeee-zeee-zeee. I unplugged mine.

I find that a slight bit of pressure on the switch when sitting in traffic will stop the sound until you release the lever. Works for me.

I unplugged the one on my 1000 for the same reason. It always sounded like it was crying because I told it to turn.Shadowjack wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 7:48 am Very annoying sound, to me. By the time they made Mr.H they had replaced the noise maker with an even more annoying automatic cancelling device that required me to turn the signal back on 2 or 3 times when there were turn lanes. I eventually figured out that I could just unplug that too

My 81 makes the buzzing noise only when over 40 mph.
Under that, It just clicks.
I like it.
It's so much better than riding around like a dork with your turn signal on.

Re: What is this and do I need it?
It is most definitely an irritating noise but I still have them on both of my 76’s,,, I added a piece of black electrical tape over the grill to help mute it down a bit, it’s still irritating but not as loud and helps the old azz that can’t remember to shut the thing off…. Self cancelling is the way to go but my time & money are better spent elsewhere.

Same here, I need them despite there shortcomings and have no plans to go after self canceling ones.

Re: What is this and do I need it?
Having had both an alarm that I found annoying and an auto cancelling unit that turned off far too soon if I had to pick one it would be the alarm
But if your eyes are moving as much as they should be you should see the flashing light when they sweep across the instrument panel......
Says the guy who often misses seeing that light. At least on Eccles. But that's my own fault and I know how to fix it. When I changed to the sequential turn signals I installed green flashing LEDs in the fairing to let me know the signals are on. I didn't want them to dazzle at night so I set them up to be less bright and mounted them where they aren't aimed directly at my eyes. One of these days I'll change that.

I'm sort of in no man's land because the dashboard bulb for the right indicator seems to be burned out, so I get neither the buzz nor the blinking indicator.Sidecar Bob wrote: ↑Sat May 10, 2025 5:46 pm Having had both an alarm that I found annoying and an auto cancelling unit that turned off far too soon if I had to pick one it would be the alarm

Re: What is this and do I need it?
If common with the earlier bikes, the indicator is a BA9S and the 1 smd LED's versions work great.toomanybikes wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 12:46 pm I'm sort of in no man's land because the dashboard bulb for the right indicator seems to be burned out, so I get neither the buzz nor the blinking indicator.

Re: What is this and do I need it?
I have old school canceling on my 78. "self canceling". They are on as long as I hold the button down, When I release the button they go off.
Works well without a buzzer, or electronic self cancelling
