Beware Scammers

Hi Guys. I was on the Rune Riders forum and almost got taken by a scammer. Another guy did get taken for $150. The dirtbag joins as a new member and minutes later answers your Wanted ad and has exactly what you are looking for ..He says that he has a friend and provides an email of his buddy that is selling the exact item you are looking for.
We have had a few scammers try this. Maybe same one with hidden IP addresses.
They may be making the rounds on other forums.

If anyone here suspect a person send me a PM immediately. I can do an IP search and get an idea if they are legit or not.

I had this happen to me on the 1911 forum, luckily I got suspicious when the original contact put me in touch with the supposed guy who had what I was looking for and they started asking for some personal info nearly immediately.
It’s a shame how bad things have gotten and how many scammers/crooks there are these days! Maybe I just didn’t see them before.

They take advantage of a level of trust that comes with membership … so now I look at how long they’ve been 'here' and how many posts they have …
Happens on the Honda inline four site too

That's a common ploy that they use. Some forums have a requirement to stop any posts in the for sale or wanted section until a certain number of posts are met. Not fool proof, yet most scammers don't wish to post 10 times and join in the forum fun.

I'm one of the mods in cx500forum and we are plagued by this sort of thing. Fortunately most members are aware of it and as soon as someone posts with that MO the first person that sees it reports it AND posts in that thread that the person wanting to buy should beware of it.
I haven't heard of anyone actually being caught by the scammers for a while.
Educating forum members about this type of scammer is our first line of defense against them.
