Hello naked friends. I have been scraping on modest left turns while riding my 76 GL1000 project bike. This video shows me using the "pennies-in-the-spring" trick to remove the spring. A work-around works fine but is kind of ugly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDoyban ... u3&index=1

My 1976 LTD does the same thing with two up, not sure if it just rides too low or if the stand is inching down. Thanks to your video I can now check to see if it can remain slightly down.

Do you have after-market mufflers or the original horseshoe? With the originals, I don't think that you would have any interference between the mufflers and the center stand. You might just need to update your shock absorbers. That is what I needed to do on my 76 Ltd. Here is the link to that video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tphgAOv ... Jy&index=3

Len, couple of things, I’ve never seen the Pennie’s trick before, great idea thanks ! Your spring is definitely hitting on the muffler but you knew that but imho that spring is toast since it has gaps between the coils when it’s relaxed, they should be tight up against each other. Also I would remove the center stand and clean it particularly the pivots because it should snap up and yours is not. I had trouble with mine being rusty in the pivots which would keep the stand hanging down a bit and dragging in corners. My 16” rear wheel exasperated this problem. Clean and lube the pivots and get a new “tight” spring. I use a drum brake spring tool to install my springs on the side & center stands but your Pennie’s trick looks easier.thx !
