Naked obsession?

#1

Post by aquatom »

Hello all,
I'm not necessarily a new member, I've been lurking in the shadows for a few years now but I think this is my first post.
I joined when I bought my first '75 about 5 or 6 years ago as a complete bike although the engine was and still is locked up. In the time since I have purchased, at different times, 2 more '75s and 1 '76, all were in various stages of disassembly.
I feel confident that I can build 3 good bikes from this collection and have finally been collecting some new parts so... let the fun begin.
Keep in mind that all this came into my possession as you see it. I feel I have rescued these bikes and hope to put them back on the road.
Here is some fodder for your viewing.

Fun for sure. I am not going into this blind. I have done this before on a CB 550 and it was great.

I'm eager to see the fun begin!

Get one of those GL projects under way. Start a build thread so we can follow your progress. Then ride that bike while you work on the next project.

I have to say that at my house there's no way I'd be allowed to have 4 of one model without having at least 1 of them on the road or on a path to getting on the road. Having a registered runner grants me permission for a parts bike (or, umm, 3). This explains why there are 2 or more of almost every bike I ride.
Avatar is a summer '21 photo of the Blue Phoenix, our 1983 GL1100I rescue gone naked.

In the Stable and Ridable
1992 ST1100 - my longer haul tourer
1992 XJ600S - son's streetfighter
1987 VFR700 - son's latest, in blue/silver
1983 - GL1100I - naked Blue Phoenix (son's, really)
1982 GL1100I - naked bagger Cabernet
1979 GL1000 - Ginger Lynn, but not that Ginger Lynn (Wing and a Prayer)
1978 CB550K - son's cafe (carb issues still vex)

Active Project(s)
1979 GL1000 - Confirmed one owner, with original paperwork. Vetter fairing and bags, off the road in dry, heated storage for 35 years.

Thanks for the encouragement. Well, at least I do have a ride while this is going on. Not a GL but my previous rescue, (a CB550), was quite a challenge but well worth the effort. It can be seen in the background in one of the photos.
