I was curious about how much all of this stuff weighs, so I took the bathroom scale out to the shop and weighed it.
TOTAL weight - 69 lbs.

Saddlebags - 31 lbs.
Fairing - 26 lbs.
Crash bar - 5 lbs.
Fender - 3 lbs.
Lights, pegs, exhaust tips - 4 lbs.

Just think, you can now gain 70 lbs and still be at the same weight as before. Bike will certainly handle better now unless you are a nervous rider and need a numb steering system.

I don't see how it couldn't handle better without all of that stuff bolted on it.

Unfortunately, if a guy is to ride primarily where I ride (mountains, deserts), it's pretty much mandatory to take some gear with you. The weather changes quick.

For my everyday bikes, saddlebags are pretty much required.
and in my experience, If you take your woman with you, you'll have to carry triple the amount of crap.

It's pretty fun riding it around naked, (even though my neighbors keep telling me to put some clothes on  )
but seriously...
If I keep this bike, I think it's going to need at least a luggage rack to be practical for us.

IMHO a luggage rack (and of course some bungee chords) is THE most useful add-on to an around-town bike.

looks like she is ready for adventure. Nice. But the grab rail with no winker holes will be hard to find.

After riding this latest bike with me, my woman said that we have now "Gone full circle".
She reminded me of this pic.
Taken in 1984 [ 40 years ago ! ] My first 1979 GL1000.
Notice bags, a luggage rack and bungee cords.

77 miles on it so far.
It's back up on the lift now because the back brake is dragging a bit.
It seems to be just sticky from sitting.

I happen to have a new set of pads, so the plan is to just pull everything off and clean it all up.
With it being holiday season, I'm probably not going to get much time in the shop for the next couple of weeks.

Could be.
I don't mind taking it apart, cleaning everything up.
I'd bet that it's the original pads and fluid.

While you are down there - pull the rear brake pedal and grease the shaft it rides on. At the very least work some lube into it.
Check the "spooge hole" in the rear master as well. It's a tiny return hole that time isn't kind to.
