I bought a complete gasket and seal kit from 4into1, and I am really impressed with the quality.

Especially the Head Gaskets.
I don't know who made these, but they are very high quality compared to some of the aftermarket
head gaskets that I have encountered over the years.

Before I bolted the heads on, I reinstalled the starter, put in new filter and oil and spun the
engine over until I got oil pumping out of the feed holes to the head.

No oil leaks - That's good!

Here's the next installment:

I stripped the belt and valve covers thinking it might be cool to polish them... It wasn't.
They ended up really ugly, so I painted them.

I don't know how durable the finish is going to be, but for right now they look pretty good.
If the paint doesn't hold up, I'll deal with it then:

This engine is turning out pretty nice looking:

I put the exhaust studs in, and that's about as far as I can take this part of the project at this time.
I now have to figure out an exhaust for it and deal with the carbs.

I've started on the carburetors and they are a mess. I'll update when I have something to add.

Carbs
missing 3 pucks, plenum was split at some point, buttons are busted, intake screens are gone.

Your engine looks great. I also have used the 4into1 gaskets and like them. If you ever just need head gaskets, the ones made in the USA by Best, and sold by Saber-Cycle, are also very good. I use Copper spray on all head gaskets, but the Best gaskets specifically call for copper spray in their instructions. Send me a PM if you still need the plenum screens as I have some spare carb parts. I am currently doing two 1975 GL1000s at the same time, and may post some pictures soon.

Well, digging into this rack of carbs has produced a few different issues.
I'll fix them after I receive the gasket kits and need a challenge.

Until then... I have a plan.
I pulled the racing bike out of hibernation and fired it up for the first time in quite a while.

Now, I'm going to swap the carbs and exhaust onto the new engine and get it running.
The straight pipes already have a bung welded in for the wideband.

Master class. Period.

One can aspire to approach that level of quality and feel good without ever getting anywhere near it. I'm in awe.

Parts have been swapped from the racing bike onto the new engine.
By all of the pics... You can tell I'm just kinda screwing around now.

Next on the list is the radiator and ignition and then I should be able to fire it up.

That's a Hayabusa turbo dragbike body.
I got it from a racer friend to experiment with (and possibly upgrade) the aerodynamics of my bike.
