Hello world!

#1

Post by anhkis »

Hey all!

New to wings yesterday but not to motorcycles or forums, though the others I'm on are all corporate owned now. Tried a corporate wing forum and they seem more interested in the joke threads than the tech, and I got a lot to learn coming from twin engines exclusively.

The new ride is an 82 GL11, and she's in pretty good shape but she has an issue, while the clutch lever is engaging it makes a sound that sounds like rod knock, but not at idle, not on full clutch, and not on acceleration.

I know I'll get more traction on the tech board, but this is a start! :)

Welcome from Wisconsin! As odd as it sounds, that noise is most likely drive chain rattle, and is common when the carbs are out of sync. Check out ShopTalk (link in my signature) to find some of the most popular threads about common issues with these wonderful bikes!
Enjoy the ride!

Thanks brother!

Where about in Wis.?
I have family on the rez in Shawano.

The seller said it needed carb sync, but I would think that would affect idle too no?

Sync won't always affect idle. In fact it can be pretty hard to tell you have a miss in one cylinder, these engines run so smooth...

That is definitely reassuring.

I counted on syncing carbs, a new belt, fluids, and the like. If that's all this is then this bike is in great shape.

Noticed that, but couldn't delete.
My apologies.

I'm on a cell, so I assumed it was the touchscreen acting up again

This forum can be a challenge on a phone, 'specially posting pics, they often appear rotated.

But the place is worth the effort !!

It certainly seems to be the place for tech info.
And for the older (better) wings! Lol
