It's about time I actually document one of my projects so here goes nothing. Analysis paralysis has stopped me for a while so I'm just gonna be posting pictures and updates as I go, The quality of posts will get better with time!

It's an '82 GL1100 but I'm working to put a '77 shelter on it... Hopefully, I can make it fit. The goal is to remove the entire instrument cluster and use a smart display that I'm developing (mounted where the old fuel gauge would be) to display all the relevant information and do some light data logging. I tore it to down nothing in mid-July did a rebuild on the carbs (which took wayyy too much cleaning), and lapped all the valves. Got the frame back from being powder-coated last week and painted the engine this weekend. Yesterday I took the first steps in reassembling the bike to its former glory. Hoping to have it done before the 20th when I go back to school but we'll see if it's possible haha. Going down to my uni this weekend to sandblast a lot of parts and get them ready for Powdercoat.

Frame and engine look great but she'll need wheels to ride. Looking forward to more progress.

haha, you can actually see a wheel in the bottom left. Just got the tires dismounted and ordered so I can strip them this weekend for coating!

It's always good when a project bike comes with its own donor sidekick.

I just pieced it together - you're the member looking to put that 77 shelter lid on a GL1100 shelter.

Thought: Before you get too far down that path, why not just cut the GL1100 lid to fit your electronic gizmo? You could cut, grind, weld a hole to fit your smart display, and you'd really avoid all the hassle involved in shoehorning the GL1000 lid on.
