Alpha and Omega

I have had many first year naked GL1000s and have been intrigued by the 2014-2015 Valkyrie ever since they were released. It is one of those bikes that you either love or hate, and I happen to love it. Yesterday, I bought a 2014 Maroon Valkyrie with 4000 miles on it for $8,300.00. There is about 40 years between these two versions, so you would expect many improvements. I was surprised at how basic the new version is: No automatic turn signal cancellation, no cruise control, no gear indicator, etc. The engine is a different story. This bike is impressive when it comes to smooth power and you can tell this engine has been vastly improved in every way. Anyway, I am now the happy owner of one of the first and last of these naked bikes and although they are very different, both are impressive in their own way.

Interesting. After having the Omega Valk for 1+ years, any updated impressions? I'm going to look at one tonight and have had multiple Gl1100's, including one on the work stand right now.
I'm debating if a big bike is in my future, with current options being Gen1 Valk, Gen2 Valk (not Rune), or Triumph Rocket III Roadster. We'll see.

I really enjoy riding the 2014 Valkyrie and highly recommend it. I never liked the first generation of the Valkyrie, but the 2014/2015 version is great in my humble opinion. The power is very impressive and it is very smooth. It handles great and is rock solid when going down the interstate at any speed. Due to the design, you get a lot of wind protection even though it is naked. If you want automatic turn signal cancel, get the 2015 version or a black 2014. The blue and maroon 2014 models do not have auto cancel. Trying to add a third party auto cancel is not a simple option due to complex wiring that is unique to this model. You will be impressed!

I have always loved Valks but there I no way I could ever ride one comfortably. The high center of gravity and my 28 inch inseam are a recipe for disaster. I have dropped enough wings to know that I have limitations.

Just returned to this thread. I did look at the 2014 Valk, but didn't like the ergos (for me) and cockpit.
But I did end up finding a '99 Valk project over the winter. It was an easy resurrection. But now I'm debating if I keep both the GL1100 and the Valk. The Valk rides great, but tightness in my right hip makes certain riding positions challenging. The GL seat is a little higher, which helps.
Here's a pick, when I picked it up. She now has shinier pipes and an OEM seat, I still have the Mustang seats for alteratives ...

Nice bike! I've got the exact same and really like about everything about it - except maybe the mpg/range. - but I can live with that.
I'm curious why you swapped in the OEM seat. I also have a Mustang seat, but slightly different. On mine, rather than a backrest for the driver, the pillion pad is extended to give a bit of lower back support. I'm much rather prefer a backrest. So if you swapped out to get rid of the backrest, I'd happily trade you for my set up.
