Quiet here. The last post was over 2 years ago....
I'd offer to liven things up by posting what I'm doing with my CX here (as well as on CXforum) but since I stopped commuting I don't need to do nearly as much work on it so that has slowed to a trickle.
I could post some highlights of how Eccles became what it is. If anyone is interested let me know.

A few of us had CXs over the years … mine's long gone … could never get really comfortable on it although it ran beautifully. Tried all sorts of adjustments, risers and peg lowering, but couldn’t make it fit.

Had the same problem with my ST1100, great bike, but I couldn’t get comfortable on it.

Guess I’m just a weird shape and size … the old Wings worked and the 'new' KLR is fine too.

Reading almost everything posted on this site is part of my daily routine. Won't have much to contribute but I did have a Silverwing some years ago. Never could get used to riding it after being on four cylinder bikes since the early 70's. Keep posting, I'm reading.

I havent touched my CX in over a year. Did a GL650 swap to it, rae-san ignition, murray carbs, modified mount, etc. Rode it for awhile and it started developing an odd issue on the left cylinder. Tried swapping ignition systems, carbs, comp check, etc. Everything except pulling the head. The next step is to swap another head on and make sure the cam doesnt have a flat lobe. Might get to it later in the year....

I once almost bought a SilverWing but was deterred by the lousy rattle can paint and a few other things I don't quite recall. Maybe the price was just a little steep for what I was looking at and the owner was firm. What I remember is that he had all the accessories - both seats, trunk, saddle bags with the seat-belt attachment buckles.
More recently (1-2 years ago), I "almost" called a guy on a cafe-style CX with good Murray's carbs and what seemed to be minor damage from a lowside. He had started disassembly and sort of thrown in the towel after a couple years. And then the bike sold. My wife doesn't know it but should probably thank the person who bought that bike. I imagine I would have "needed" a parts bike to go with the project bike.
My son has a bit of a CX (or GL500) itch, but he has yet to scratch it. More recently, he's been eyeballing the old Interceptors looking for a project.

I am a big fan of the 500/650's .. had an 81 CX500 was was a really nice bike. Would not turn one down, even though I really miss my GL1100. As I get older, holding the CX500 up at a stop light seems more practical.

Wow, been a long time since anyone posted here ... But Sidecar .. you recommended a GL vs CX for sidecar. I have taken that to heart and have been looking for a nice GL500. May have a line on one fairly local. We shall see if that works out.

Note that sidecars need a minimum of 3 attachment points to the frame: Upper front, lower front and lower rear (a 4th point at upper rear is usually a good idea too).
Since the CX/GL500/650 models use the engine as a stressed member instead of having a cradle type frame there is no place for the lower front attachment point. This is not an insurmountable problem if you are capable of fabricating a subframe to provide that point.
