carb kits?

#1

Post by sbaugz »

looking for a simple, inexpensive carb rebuild kit. I really only need some float bowl gaskets and a slow jet or two. obviously Randakks kit is the most complete and nicest but I don't need everything, and I cannot spend $250 on this particular low-budget build. so which ones are decent for my purposes? I see some from cruzinimage in japan and lots of others from china, etc. They range from $30-$100 for a set of four. Is there one out there that won't break the bank, yet is decent enough to use for a couple parts here and there?

Would caution you to stay away from aftermarket jets. Clean what you have and reuse if at all possible.

Some of the ones available are really poor. I picked up four on eBay for $49 total once. I figured they would be good for the bowl gaskets. After chasing leaking floats, the reason was the gaskets which looked great were swelling so much when the fuel contacted them that they were hitting the floats limiting movement. Crazy thing was that when you removed the float bowl, they would shrink right back into shape in seconds.

I think they were a TruJet brand name but can’t say. Roncar has a write up in Shoptalk comparing the various brands. See the similar topics at the bottom of this page. Honda still offers them as well.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

ok thanks.
I may just try and re-use the jets. In particular, one of the slow jets is pretty messed up. The top part where the screwdriver fits in broke off. I had to use an easy-out to remove it. Technically I could probably still use it, maybe I shouldn't.

On that same subject, does anyone have one of those little retainer clips that holds the float valve in place under the float? I lost one on the floor and cannot find it. The valves themselves work fine, so I hate to spend the money on a whole new valve, just so I can get one of those clips. Let me know.

Randakk sells float bowl gaskets separately. As for the rest you don't mention the bike you are working on so can't give an answer.

You won't be able to reuse the jet you had to take the easyout to. Put a post in the wanted section to see if anyone has some extra OEM jets. Stay away from aftermarket jets unless you absolutely have to use them.

You can also search ebay for the jets. They come up from time to time.
