Who made this?

A teaser, for now.
I was going to post this on the CX forum, but thought to give you all a chance at guessing.

Most of you know that I have a fair knowledge of some of the most obscure machines, but I recently came across one that I had never heard of, made by a well known company. You have to guess the company.

Very interesting bike. Here's the spec:
Transverse V-Twin, like the CX and the Guzzis
Bevel drive overhead cams (Double overhead cams on the last and only survivor)
Shaft drive, on the left
Racer, not a road bike (although originally there was to be a road version)
10K rev ceiling ...........in 1952!!!
Initially had torsion bar rear springing, although that got ditched for conventional shocks.
It was painted red (obscure clue, oh all right it's Italian)
The company is no longer in existence. Stopped manufacturing in the 70s.

It will be interesting to see what answers we get, before I post a picture and tell you.

In 1953 Victoria (of Nurembug Germany - not to be confused with Victoria of Scotland) developed a model designated as the KR 26 Aero designated the V 35 Bergmeister. The V 35 is a 350 cc OHV four-stroke V-twin producing 21 bhp (16 kW). The V 35's powertrain combined chain primary drive to the gearbox with shaft drive to the rear wheel.

Good guess, but not the one. That was a nice machine, but too expensive for the times.
This one is 250cc and Italian.

Benelli made four stroke singles, verticle twins, verticle threes, verticle fours and a straight six, along with two stroke singles and twins, but not to my knowledge any kind of V-twin.
Benelli is still selling a beautiful 3 cylinder sports bike.

I had to edit this as I thought that the Chinese now owned it, but it's part owned by an Indian company.

MV Agusta made road bikes with two stroke singles, four strokes in twin and four cylinder guises. Their race bikes were straight fours or threes. Again, to my knowledge they never produced a V-twin.
The current MV road bikes are simply the most stunning looking bikes you can find, especially the 3 cylinder Brutale.

I'll give you another clue. Sometime back I posted a picture on one of Winston's threads about a land speed record machine that this company made, which I believe achieved it's aim. It wasn't this bike but it was red.

Ok, the guesses seem to have run out so here it is.

You were on the wrong track. This company didn't make bikes.........they made scooters!

LAMBRETTA! Who would have thought it? Check out this little jewel.
