Following on from this post in another of my epic threads https://www.ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic ... 96#p695396.

Today I used a screwdriver to lever the neutral switch into the block to make sure it is all the way in, and the neutral light worked as it should! Didn't last long when I let go, so did it a couple more times with the same result. In conclusion, and we're only talking of a very small movement, I need to drop the engine again so I can really get to the securing plate, and make sure it is securely fixed with the switch in as far as it will go.

Already checked the electrical elements of the circuit, knew the switch was good, so had to be the contact of the switch and the shaft it presses against! Elementary my dear Watson!!!

So all of you with similar problems, don't assume it's the diode, clutch switch or a bad earth. (Although of course it may be one of those)

Feeling very happy and pleased with myself. :-D

Good news for sure.

There is a way to lever/wedge the frame out for additional clearance to access the switch bolt per the Honda service manual. It may give you the additional room you need to secure the switch without having to pull the engine.

I have a manual that explains that procedure, but think I'd probably break something else if I tried! :lol:

Today I dropped the engine enough to get to the neutral switch. Removed it and checked it then put it back in making sure it was all the way in. Made sure the securing plate was lined up and secured it. Connected the battery and put the bike into gear and the light went out! Went through the gears several times and it worked as it should. Obviously need to do a proper run but waiting for other parts at the moment, but hopefully I've finally sorted it.
Didn't want to risk flexing the frame as with my luck it would all have gone wrong.
