I purchased some small billet turn signals for my 75' Wing that have threaded 10mm 1.25 Fine Pitch stems. Not a problem mounting them in my headlight thru the mounting ears since the headlight bucket internal nut is the same size as the turn signal stems.
But on my real grab rail, the internal diameter of the rear signal mounts are 10mm but not threaded. Problem is I would like to screw my new signal stems into these mounts. Unfortunately the stems of the turn signals are not long enough to use a nut on the opposite end to secure them to the signal mounts.
Anyone have any ideas Thought about filling the inside of these mount with something that would harden, then drill and tap but don't know what
It's not a high stress application so JB weld or any similar metal replacement type epoxy should work.

Do you think that would be strong enough if I fill this tube with epoxy then run a 10mm tap thru it ? I would think that drilling a hole big enough then running a tap thru it would break up the epoxy ?
Is there any other suggestions, maybe heli-coil ?

Could you not make up an adapter?
If need be, take the grab rail and turn signals to a machine shop and show them what you need.
I'll bet it would not cost much and would fit properly.
You could do a helicoil. In my opinion this would probably be the simplest solution. You could also try Loctite's new form a thread epoxy. Supposed to be pretty strong stuff. I would think in either case you would have to give it (any sort of epoxy) some sort of roughed up surface to form a mechanical bond to so it doesn't just slip out of the hole. If you know someone with a small lathe you could machine some slightly interference fit plugs to press into the hole, but this would require making the hole a bit bigger in order to provide enough material to drill and tap it.
I ran a 10mm 1.25 tap down the hole of the turn signal stems of the rear grab rail. To my surprise the Left stem of the grab rail after the tap held the threaded turn signal threaded end well and tightened But the right stem of the grab rail after tap would not screw in to hold, not enough threads cut to hold signal end The hole of the right signal mount must of been just oversized enough that didn't allow the threads after tapping to hold the turn signal end
So my question is, would wrapping the turn signal threads with something hold it ? What would you suggest ?
