Hello GoldWing owners, I just bought 78, what I fine machine.
I changed the timing belts.
Followed all the instructions and u tube videos I could find, all seems fine but as I rotate the motor the belts get loose at one point then tighten back up.
Is that normal??
Thanks in advance for any advice

Re: Timing Belts
when the crank to cam pulley side is tight, there can be a slight amount of slack on the other side. The idler is spring loaded, and sets the proper tension, when the other side is tight,

Re: Timing Belts
I appreciate the replies, I really think I have it right but trying to convince myself a little more.
I cant see how not to have some slack in the non tensioner side for a brief moment while the engine spins over and the cams load an un load from valve spring tension.
Also I understand when things heat up they also tighten up, the drive belt on Harleys I have had tightened up after riding for a while.

Re: Timing Belts
i had the same trouble with one of the belts, turning the crank 360, timing mark facing in, did the trick for me on the tension.

Re: Timing Belts
Also the cams put tension on the turning of the crank..so it could be that too.

Follow Octane's method... it works and makes it painless.
