Sweet white smoke
Soooo.... It seems I blew a head gasket on the left side this weekend. Was wondering, is their a gasket kit I can buy that has everything needed to do this job, or do I have to source each part individually? Trying not to have to keep ordering parts. as I go along. Thanks all!

Here's a parts list from another members project. You may not need all of these
And may need others.

Plenty of complete gasket kits out there.....

Can you explain a bit more about the appearance of "Sweet whit smoke"... Have you done a compression and leak down tests to confirm head gasket??

Re: Sweet white smoke
If you're blowing white smoke out the tailpipe, it's a bad head gasket. If not, it's going to fail very soon. Not many other ways coolant can get into your combustion chamber.
That being said, there are engine gasket sets out there. Most/all of them are probably fine, and I would probably feel comfortable using them. The important bit is that, when it comes to the ACTUAL head gasket, go OEM. Trust me. It's not worth the money or effort to put in an aftermarket set, only to have them blow within 10 miles and have to re-do the entire job over again.
Do it right the first time. OEM head gaskets, aftermarket kit (usually) okay for everything else.

Re: Sweet white smoke
Don't most of the aftermarket kits come with head gaskets? If so why spend money on that then also buy OEM head gaskets? Just get all OEM and it would be cheaper than buying a full "kit" plus OEM head gaskets. If your cam seals are good all you need beside head gaskets are the two oil restrictor O-rings, two O-rings for the water pipe, and the a gasket for the water pipe joint per side. Maybe 0-rings for the manifolds.
If you want one stop easy, OEM all the way is the way to go. IMO And price isn't bad at all.

Re: Sweet white smoke
Ol chris, I done a compression che k about a month ago. Had 150 on all except cylinder 3 which had 160. I was riding it home on the interstate, and it started running a little rough. When I pulled over, it was pouring white smoke out the left side. I shut it off, and let it cool down. There was no fluid in the overflow or the radiator. When I pulled the plugs, number 4 was wet, so I suspect it dumped into that cylinder.

Re: Sweet white smoke
Those compression figures are/were very enviable, and your reply reallllllly/absolutely indicates a head gasket as you initially suggested.... IMO just buy a full top set (aftermarket) for a few hundred ish$...... Its your choice in the end but mother onda will probably want 3x $$ Im not sure whether you have seen this but i will be a PITA and refer it to you .... The polish/german supplier, in my experience has good kits... but its your choice!!millerdog wrote:Ol chris, I done a compression che k about a month ago. Re: Sweet white smoke
Miller dog, I did both head gaskets, and went with western Honda in Scottsdale AZ.
They were recommended by a few members with good luck.
put my list together and double checked it and spent five min on phone and done.
all Honda parts worked for me, been a couple of years and no leaks, well.....mmmm
Always something to fix on my vintage wing.
