Ultrasonic cleaner

#1

Post by 6adan »

I have been looking at these and can not decide what size would be best. I have looked at 6L and 10L for carb cleaning. Anyone on here use a ultrasonic cleaner, what kind and size, have you had any trouble with them? I have looked at ebay and Amazon and found good and bad revues but all seem to be made in China.

I have the harbor freight one. The "big" one. It is about 2L I think. So not real big. You do want one with heat. I use mine for other things besides carbs too.

I purchased this ultrasonic cleaner on eBay several months ago. Its rated at 780 watts and capacity is 5.5 gallons (21 liters). I originally purchased this size for cleaning castings and various parts on the Solex mopeds that I'm restoring. It easily handles engine crankcases, crankshafts, heads, etc. Expensive but well worth it.

scootsx2 that is like the one I was looking at only just smaller. Is yours 110v or 220v? The reason I ask is the picture for the 10L shows 220/50Hz which I understand will not work in U.S.

Grrrrr.. My 3.2Ltr Ultra/S cleaner i bought from ebay (china).... It would not hold 3ltrs of liquid!!!!I complained and got 20%$ back... Its lucky to hold 2+ltrs of usable liquid if you put 1/2 a plenum in it....... It has a "touch pad" thingy for heat and timing and after 40 - 50 uses it has failed and the touch pad wont respond... Grrrr 8 mths of use...

I have ordered another at 6ltrs with "dial type" settings, so this ham fisted operator cant smash the touch pad ! (if that was the problem)

From my experience a 3-4 ltrs @100watt is a bit small for general M/C stuff.... IMO go up a notch in wattage to 150w minimum and 6ltrs?? in size... you might be able to get 2 whole carbs in there if not one for sure plus bits....

The one ive just ordered... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121513639841

The one ive had that failed and wouldnt hold 3 ltrs of fluid, right up to the tippy tippy top http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3-2L-Digital ... TB:AU:3160

120V, 60hz.

Most electronic equipment these days have "universal" power supplies that work with 100-240 VAC, 50/60HZ power. All you do is change the power cord to work with the local plug types.

This cleaner works like a champ. I did one of my brake calipers in it last night. Came out spotless. A couple of gallons of hot water and a small amount of Purple Power or other water soluble degreaser work very well. For really stubborn crud I clean the part(s) with mineral spirits first to soften up the really hard stuff.

I have a 6 ltr heated version, been using it for several years now on carbs. You can get two carb bodies in at a time.
I'm actually thinking about adding either another 6 or possibly a 10 to speed things up a little.
If you buy a 10, it needs a drain. You can handle a full 6 no problem.

If it does turn out to actually need 220V just wire in a 220V outlet for it. Your home has what is commonly called "split 220V" which means there are 2 lines coming in plus a neutral wire. There is 110V between each line and the neutral and 220V between the lines. If you have an electric stove or dryer its plug is probably wired for 220V.

You may still have to put a North American 220V plug on the cleaner, though.

Just a update on this, I got the 10L and have already used it on a set of 1200 carbs. I had already done some work on to clean but just did not feel like I was getting them as clean as I would like. I was able to get all 4 carbs in the tank and as soon as I turned it on I could see I had not gotten them clean. I used plane water and writhen just a few minuets I could not see the bottom of the tank. It turned out to be just a normal 110v plug.
