I went to pick up a parts bike today for the 78, and I got this!!! A 79 that runs! I put a battery in and it started right up! So much for the engine being bad. It idles fine. But the choke has to be out for it to rev up after it warmed up. I have new belts already! Brakes work, gauges work, blinker in the front are gone and the little stems that the blinkers attach to are cut off but enough is left to weld to, gas tank is clean!! The exhaust is from a 77 but it is in good shape. The seat is the usual aftermarket seat, It has a heel toe shifter and floor boards. All that has to go.

There are a few things I need for this bike.

seat!! Found a new old stock mr seats.
front blinkers , on the way
headlight side reflectors with rubber boots. On the way
stock exhaust system, not yet.

Nice. That is a good jump from a non running 78. Ya'll must have old goldwings coming out of the wood work up there in CT. I can go for weeks without finding one I can afford or worth the effort on craigslist down here. You have two fall right in your lap.

I could buy another 79 now if I wanted it for 300. Non running but ran last year. Not as nice as this one but it has a good exhaust on it, and spray can paint job

Had only a little while to do anything after work so I started the 79 and checked why it was not charging and the stator wire was cooked . So I cut it apart and just twisted the wires and started it again, yes sir its charging so I will do the solder fix to it. I have to fix the front blinker stalks because they were cut off to put a vetter fairing on. The bike idles great! But will not rev up to good I think it is one of the carbs to the left side cylinders I get a little back fire on that side.. I need to do fork seals also someday.

I had a pair of front and rear foot pegs from a 83 junker that I have, they fit fine and got all the Markland stuff off.

The coils are yellow? must be accel coils I would think.

I pulled the carbs off the 78 so I could disassemble them and clean then up and get new O-rings and put them on the 79. They were dirty inside and out, I sprayed them down with degreaser waited a couple of hours and steam cleaned them. I will hit them with a little aluma brite spray and they will clean right up.

I have been letting the bike run anytime I am at the shop, but now the starter just spins and will not engage. I changed the oil last time I ran it with rotella

Had some time today before the wife wanted to go out and go shopping. She likes me to go, so she can use my money LOL!!!

So I made pieces for the front blinker ears and welded them on and put the blinkers on temporarily, I still need to drill and tap them . Put some marvel mystery in the crankcase a while ago and have been putting the bike outside and letting it run, have to jump the fan to run it because the fan temp sensor must be stuck, I will get to that another day. The starter seems to work ok after letting it run several times. Took the 78 carbs off and took all the jets floats and slides out of them and power washed them. I will get new O-rings and gaskets for them and put them on the 79. That was all for today.

I got a email from Dyna the other day because I sent the Dyna lll to them for testing and it was weak so they offered me a new Dyna for $78.00 and free shipping so I took the deal. I will put it in the 79 after the carbs are rebuilt.

Moving right along. Wish I could weld. My old house doesn't have the juice to hook a welder to. Tried it and it pops the breaker. Feel free to add some pics as you go. Would love to see them.

A 110v volt welder should work on a 20 amp breaker with no trouble!
