PSA - Harbor Freight Motorcycle lift on sale, plus 20% off

Everyone:

Have to do my timing belts and my back was telling me I needed a motorcycle lift, I'm not young enough to do this any more:

Image

Ah, who am I kidding - I've never been able to do that.

I saw the Harbor Freight motorcycle lift, normally $149.99, is on sale for $89.00:

http://www.harborfreight.com/1500-lb-ca ... 60536.html

But if you go pick up Road and Track, or Car and Driver magazine, they have a Harbor Freight ad in the back with a coupon for 20% off a single item at HF. Fine print says this excludes floor jacks, but when I asked the nice young man if I could use the coupon with this purchase (since it is technically a motorcycle jack, not a floor jack), to my surprise he scanned the coupon with the scan gun and says "yes, it worked for this purchase".

The used motorcycle lifts run anywhere from $50 to $90 around here, total price for a new HF unit out the door was $77 dollars and change - just wanted to pass this on.

I don't trust a lift like that for a bike as heavy as a Goldwing. They are not as stable as this HF lift which I have been using for several years and is currently on sale.

I have the HF MC jack, and it works beautifully for removing a GW engine. When I pulled my GL1000 engine, and reinstalled it, it was so much easier than regular floor jacks! I didn't even have any problems with getting the u-joint/drive shaft connection together.

The only problem that I have found with the HF jack is that the "T" handle is made Cheaply, and will bend at the base where it goes into the jack, if you move your wing around a lot using the jack (unless you have a polished cement surface). My concrete floor is a little rough, and with the full weight of the Wing on the jack, it takes a bit of "grunt" to move it around while it is up on the jack.

Other than that, it's a great tool for the price. :orange

I have a hf transmission jack that works well as a motorcycle jack with a homemade adaptor.
But I can see both pieces of hf equipment being useful.

I have no problem with my 1200 on that jack, but the 1100 with allthe extra crap on the tail makes it too much for the jack.

I use both styles, I find I use the small one the most, it is just convenient for quickly lifting the bike, and it is not in the way when it is not being used. The table style takes up a lot of space when not in use, so I store it out of the way until needed for a longer project. I would note to be careful on the small jack when removing parts from the bike, balance can change quickly!

Problem with the table lift is storage. It pretty much owns my garage. Think I need a bigger garage.

Don't we all? My girlfiriend and I often joke about what our next home will be - a much smaller, ranch-style home with a GIANT garage. As long as her car gets a space in there, I can have as many bikes as I want. Yes, she's a keeper. ;)

I just had the harbor freight motorcycle lift (item 61632) delivered. The design is horrific. It presents a serious hazard to the user. I do not recommend this item and am in the process of returning it. I guess you get what you pay for...

I have a similar one I bought over ten years ago from somewhere else (but I would have to see them side by side to compare). I use mine all the time-just changed three HD tires using it. I must admit it works better on our HD's as the side stand or center stand is not in he way, on the wing I come at it from the right side instead, also it rests on the frame not the headers.

You do have to realize you are lifting the bike from the middle and so, if any doubt, strap it down once it is lifted
