I have grown to like the look of a naked Gold Wing though. Classic! I remember when Honda first released the GL1000, I thought it looked fat as I rode off on my RD250. Last summer, I ran into a guy riding a Gold Wing that looked pretty beat up. But as he pointed out, everything mechanical was good on it.
I wish I had taken a pic of his bike because it did look good. Impressed the hell out of me. If I run into a deal on a Gold Wing, I just might jump on it.

These days, I am riding one of these. ...when the snow finally melts.

One of the reasons I joined here is to look at some of the interesting topics some of you have posted here. I couldn't see the attachments. Looking forward to reading some interesting things here. Maybe I can even give my 2 cents.

My neighbour has a 1973 CB500 that hasn't been run since he stopped riding. That was back in the mid 80s he told me. I suggested that if he isn't going to keep the bike that I would be interested. Just putting a bug in his ear. Hope he remembers me if he does decide to unload the bike.

Cheers everyone,
Roger

Welcome from here. Those cb500's, are very special, smooth, and I remember reading that
they handled better than the heralded cb750. Hope you get that bike and a goldwing too!

Welcome from the UK, and nice Triumph! As has been said before, if you take on a Wing you will be bitten by the bug and start a labour of love. Keep a lookout for one and hope to see you here many times.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. That CB500 would be amazing to own. Not being run for 30 years would make it a complete overhaul and rebuild. That's nothing that I can't deal with.

Just looking around on the web and found this: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-touring/edmonton ... nFlag=true

A 1981 Interstate with about 55,000 miles on the clock for CDN $2,299.00. Would be a great starter for me but timing is bad for me right now. Oh well. Have to pass for now.

Howdy from just down the road a bit, and welcome to the NGW club. Not to worry about not having a Wing, we like all sorts of bikes. Nice Bonnie!

Keep an eye out on Kijiji, both of my Wings came from adds on that site. If I run across anything I will drop you a PM.

That CB 500 very likely will not need a complete overhaul . Pull the plugs and shoot penetrating oil in the cylinders . Change oil , replace chain and she will likely fire up and run just fine . Get a wing and enjoy the addiction with the rest of us !

Cheers,
Kijiji is pretty much my 'go to' for anything bike related. Appreciate your help locating a bike but timing is bad for me at the moment. Job is taking up too much of my time and dammit, I'm not liking it. My T100 will be enough for now. Not that I don't want another bike... or two... or three. Oops, wife is watching. GTG. :)
sunnbobb wrote:Welcome, here is another T100..;)
Ya, that is a real classic. But I don't mind having a modern classic.

If my neighbour does sell his CB500 to me, the bike would get a tear down after a preliminary inspection. A bike engine is very different from an old cast iron car engine that hasn't run in 30 years. Some guys will just stand on the kick start to get an old bike going and cause all kinds of problems. Not me.

BTW, I used to be a Evinrude mechanic but worked on Mercs too. Google images Mercury Tower of Power. Six cylinder in-line, three carbs with reeds and all crank needle bearings are glued with grease on reassembly. Lots of fun.
