I am taking apart a rear case from a gl1100. I am trying to take out the stator and the pulse advancer both seem to be stuck?
I have tried a impact driver on the three Phillips heads that hold the stator in place but none will budge I am assuming they are standard counter clockwise to screw out..correct??? Any suggestions beside using an impact driver...
Second, to remove the electronic ignition assemble I have the cover and outer piece off, removed the advancer's contact head and the plastic spacer then I tried to drive the shaft out toward the inside of cover using a wood block and hammer???? seemed to move a bit but now stuck and I hesitate to pound any harder.. I did squirt a little WD at the shaft from both sides..
So am I on the right track or should I be doing something else????

Re: Takign apart a rear case questions before I break someth
The 3 bolts on the stator are LH thread yes. They can be very tight and stubborn though. Try placing the case on a piece of wood, 2 x 4 works. That gives it a solid surface but it also has a little give.
Can't help on the ignition part, sorry.

Yep that's what it's on for both issues 2x4' holding the case up off the workbench may move to the floor for a stiffer surface as my workbench moves/vibrates with every strike.

yeah, I do mine on the floor. I have a nice rubber pad on the floor, then use the 2 x 4's too. Sometimes it still takes a pretty heavy hit. I have already used a 2lb sledge along with the hand impact driver on some very stubborn fasteners.
Even after you get those screws out the stator can be tough to remove. It has to come out pretty straight.
