It seems I read somewhere that the carbs can be synced on a bench if you have them out -- something about using a feeler guage or something to measure the various throttle adjustments on each carb. Anyone know anything about this?
Thanks!

Bench Syncing Is A Good Start To Dialing In Your Carbs, But Due To Elevation, Climate, Timing, And The Condition Of Your Engine, I.E. Compresion, Your Bench Sync Will Not Be Perfect For Your Bike, You Will Still Need To Do One On The Bike....

Get two drills of the same size about 1/8th, find the flap that pulls the other three flaps ( the one with no adjuster screw). Open the flap and push the drill in the carb so that it is under the flap and gently release the flap so it sits on the drill. This flap should then be open 1/8th of an inch, slacken the lock nuts on the other three flaps and adjust them individually till the second drill is a sliding fit under each flap.Grandad Sam wrote:How does one do the bench sync? I'd like to get them on the same page before starting it up.
Thanks!

Most strongly agree with Frenchy on this. A bench synch may get you in the ball park but only a set of merc gages will get you to home plate. Huge differences when done correctly.

Villen Dank! (I think that is how we spelled it in German 101.) Your words of wisdom are much appreciated. I did bench syn them and now for the real thing. Hopefully they will be close!
In my carb rebuild (82 GL1100A) I almost forgot to set the accelerator pump. I was reviewing the manuel and saw that last step before putting them on the bike. Hopefully - valves replaced on #1 & #3, carbs rebuilt, radiator rodded, brakes rebuilt, paint job in process - plus Scoutmaster and Cubmaster and Den leader - hopefully I can get it started this weekend..maybe finished, God willing!
Thaks for all your valuable help and insight. Also, pay attention to that guy Randall W. since he really knows what he is talking about! he has saved my hiney with some great words of wisdom! Wonder when the GL1100 Carb rebuild video is coming out...
Thanks!
