2014 NGW Central Run Official Announcement

#1

Post by pierce »

Date:

July 15 - 18th

Location:

Wyalusing State Park, where the Wisconsin River meets the Mississippi River on the Great River Road in Wisconsin.

We will be staying at a group camp within Wyalusing Park that can support 20 campers which would be free with registration. The campground has access to bathrooms and showers, picnic tables, and covered day sites if weather is an issue. There is a site which holds 40, but from past runs, it is unlikely we would need a larger site. However, it is there if needed.

<object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="//www.youtube.com/v/3qgEhQwT_UM?hl=en_US& ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="//www.youtube.com/v/3qgEhQwT_UM?hl=en_US&version=3&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>[/video]

For those that choose to camp privately, reservations can me made online. Please note that all vehicles that enter the state park will be charged 7 dollars per a day (24 hour period) for in state liscene plates, and ten for out of state. There are hourly, and reduced rate passes for those 65 or older available as well. These expenses will be your responsibility.

Car use fees:

Praire Du Chien is just a few miles away and has quite a few hotels ranging from affordable, to expensive depending on what you prefer, given that camping is not appealing, or not practical for you.

My suggestions:
Bridgeport Inn
Best Western
Super 8

There are many more, but that gives you a few options that are very close to the State Park.

Registration:

Registration is $25 and will include one dinner, one lunch, T-shirt, and free camping at the designated group campsite in Wyalusing State Park.

Register here.

Agenda:

Tuesday:
Arrival

Wednesday:
Dinner in Prairie Du Chien just a few miles from Wyalusing State Park.

Thursday:
Group ride on the Great River Road. The ride will be taken at your own pace, with lunch at the designated time in La Crosse. Exact time and location will be announced at a later date.

A suggested route will be provided, along with suggested stops along the way. This is a beautiful ride on either side, so the return to camp will be on the Minnesota/Iowa side, and the northern trip on the Wisconsin side (traveling to La Crosse).

Friday:
Depart

T-Shirt:

T-Shirt will be provided, however I am taking suggestions on design.

I will have at least three other suggested rides in the area. I will post details at a later date.

If you have any questions, would like to help in any way, please just chime in.

Hope to see you all there! anim-cheers1

Nice work, Pierce!
I think we have members in the Neillsville area and a few from the twin cities. It might be fun to hook up in Hastings on Tuesday and catch an extra hundred miles of The Great River Road on the way down.

Thanks everyone! Hope to see all of you there.

I would also be willing to meet at Hastings, or any location and ride in along the Mississippi. So if you make plans, keep me in mind!

You asked so I'll chime in, First is there any interest?, in going on a tour of the S&S engine plant? I did that tour a few years back when S&S had their 50 anniversary and had 50 bike builders from all over world build a bike using S&S motors. The tour takes you in the machine shop and also through the engineering Dept, where they have a printer that can make true to scale plastic-epoxy parts. On to the prototype engines and test area, at that time they had designed their very own engine called the wedge,an air cooled V-twin. And lot of back roads with twists. This is one of my favorite area to ride, And this area offers a lot river roads with shop

Hacksaw, I already beat you to it!

One of the suggested routes, one I'll be leading a few on is east along the river on 60, and then north through Kickapoo valley alongside the Kickapoo river. It crosses through viola. Another stop might be wildcat mountain.

If you would like, you could certainly help organize it. The more help, the easier it is on those coming from outside Wisconsin!

This looks like a great plan. Tempting, very tempting. Thanks for all the planning.
