LEFT SIDE HEAT

#1

Post by spongebob »

I JUST BOUGHT MY FIRST GOLDWING- A 1997 SE PEARL WHITE. IT'S BEEN BROUGHT UP TO MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE FOR 24,000 MILES AND RUNS GREAT. I HAVE ONE CONCERN --THERE IS CONSIDERABLE HEAT HITTING MY LEFT SHIN ONCE THE WING IS ON THE ROAD AND ENGINE COMES UP TO TEMP. THE VENTS ARE SET TO "C" AND THE FOOT WARMER KNOB IS TURNED OFF. THERE IS SOME HEAT COMMING OFF THE RIGHT SIDE BUT NOT AS MUCH AS THE LEFT. IS THIS NORMAL FOR THIS MODEL. ANY SUGGESTIONS ? THANKS :) :)

Hello, Spongebob, welcome on this forum.

Is the heat coming trough the vent holes?
and does the engine not overheat?

If the engine is not overheating, the valve from the vent holes is perhaps stuck on giving heat while it's on the "c" stand, there could be a difference in heat on both sides trough dirt in the channels or some other obstacles in the air channels.

But if the engine does not overheat, you don't have to worry, the air coming trough these channels is just lead trough some heated parts of the bike to comfort your feet..and does no damage to the engine.

If the "c" stand does not work, the valve is probably loose..

Greetings, Teus

THANKS TEUS,
THE HEAT SEEMS TO BE COMING JUST ABOVE THE VALVE COVERS.
THE ENGINE DOES NOT OVERHEAT, THE INDICATOR STAYS IN THE NORMAL RANGE AND THE COOLING FANS ARE WORKING. I DID TAKE THE FRONT COWLING OFF FOR CLEANING SO MAYBE I DIDN'T LINE UP THE DUCTWORK. I'LL TAKE COWLING OFF AGAIN AND CHECK.

THANKS AGAIN
