Safe, effective parts cleaner

#1

Post by rufussrgnt »

I am very concerned about some of the harsh and dangerous chemicals that I use to clean my 'Wing parts. I've started using a new technique that may work for you:

Here is what my final drive looked like before I started.

I put some Permatex Smooth (not gritty) FAST ORANGE on my wife's toothbrush.

Brushed the FAST ORANGE onto a section

Let it soak a couple of minutes

Wiped it off with a rag or paper towel and here's what I got!

Next to last step: Sneak wife's toothbrush back into the bathroom.

Last step: Make quick trip to ER to have size 6 woman's shoe removed from rectum.

The stuff works pretty good. Not a lot of rubbing and it's not flammable. It also doesn't bring the little lady out into the shop to find out what that stink is. Oh yeah, my hands are delicately soft. And, last but not least, it's biodegradable.

I first used this technique on the exterior of my carburetors but didn't document it. Made them look nice and I didn't have to take them outside (9 degrees) to clean them.

I don't know why the final drive looked like that. I just bought it and am now tearing it down. This mess was hidden behind the 'bags. I guess the previous owners philosophy was "out of site out of mind".
