Weber Conversion Question

#1

Post by Millwright »

Hello For the carb conversion on my bike I ended up with a set of Weber 40 IDF model 70 s carbs. I was wondering about the original vacuum advance line. The new carbs look like they have a port for the connection, just take out the screw and hook up to the existing vacuum line. I have also read that there is no ignition vacuum port on Weber 40 IDF. Any suggestions?

You must have a spark advance to some point (for the 1000 it's 37.5 degrees). Also on a 1000 it's mechanical so I have no vacuum lines and the carbs have their stock vacuum plugs.

Vacuum...it might need to be controlled mechanically - but basically it just sucks.

Thanks for the reply Greg. Last night I spent some time reading on the VW boards and these carbs definately have usable vacuum ports for ignition. Aparently some webers have vacuum ports and some do not. The literature sent with the carbs must not have been updated, as it stated there were no ports suitable for this. I will Tee the two ports together and connect up to the original vucuum line. Thanks
