Carter carbs
I was talking to a friend of mine who has owned a cycle repair shop for about 25yrs on the subject of single carb conversions. I'm looking at a gl1000 thats been converted and asked his opinion. He said he loves them and has converted around a hundred. He said that the Webers are great but are time consuming to get the timing and jetting right. He said he had much better luck just buying a Carter carb. He said he never did one that is didn't improve economy and never had a customer complain or bring one back. Just thought I'd impart this as I've not seen this mentioned on this topic. He also said the carters are cheaper and easier to rebuild if needed.

Re: Carter carbs
I finally remembered to ask my buddy about the Carter carbs he uses. He said he just goes to the wrecking yard and buys a two barrel off an old ford then puts a kit in it. He said their easy to set up that way...a lot easier than the Webers. Just a little trial and error many times they'll work as is,
