here are some pic of my try and would be interested to know where guys are tapping in to heat there manifolds with the cooling system.

Re: single carb intake /two barrel holly
I've seen tubes welded to the bottom of the center plenum and then plumbed into the engine water tubes somehow. Photos have never really zoomed in on how it was done. If you have metal flanges at the intake port then enough heat might come up to take care of the runners.
I like that large center plenum.
When I was playing with manifold design for dual weber DCOE's I came across this site http://horsepowercalculators.net/intake ... old-design. It's a fairly interesting read.
It includes this cartoon. Notice how the intake runners protrude into the plenum and have radius'd openings.

Nice job on that manifold.
You may find that frost will build-up on the neck area (below the carb flange) of the carb adapter for the primary side of the two-barrel, eventually frosting the whole neck (or tubes).
Coolant can be pulled from the cylinder head coolant manifolds with a 1/2" ell welded to each little manifold, plumbed to a chamber welded onto the bottom of your manifold to heat the plenums floor, and exited to the t-housing somewhere. 2 coolant inlets (1 left and right), 1 outlet (front and center). 1/2" 90 degree elbows are hard to find. I use little elbows cut from a A/C part found at the auto parts store.
Heating the plenum floor of the manifold does little to heat the neck area of that adapter though. Heat transfer from wherever/however you heat your manifold will have to happen to make its way up to the adapter unless you somehow heat it directly.
If you heat the manifold with a coolant chamber below the plenum, then a bleed screw to get the air out is a good idea.
Good thought pattern on getting heat to it. Not many heat their manifolds. Ride it with and without heat and you'll see the difference...
Keep up the good work and let us know how it progresses.

Re: single carb intake /two barrel holly
Are you really gonna run a Holley 94 [or Stromberg] on your wing? A Holley Bugspray might be easier to tune but it uses a four bolt base instead of three. Bugspray's were made in 200 and 300 cfm models. incase you have never seen a BS its basicly a 94 designed to work on air cooled VW's.
It is going to run fat at idle with a plenum type manifold, If I were tring to jet it I would solder up one of the air bleeds for the idle jets that will help with the rich idle. Are you using a new reproduction carbs or a old Holley?

Re: single carb intake /two barrel holly
it is an old holley with a rebuild kit in it. I had it sitting on a shelf which is one of the reasons i'm using it. also the main reason i made the plenum with interchangable tops is so i can swap out without going back to square one.I had never heard of the bugspray but it sounds interesting, although if this doesn't work out i'll probably look for a weber. I love to tinker so appreciate all the input.

Hi Bill, nice plenum build
,.... you were interested in where some tape in for plenum heat,.....Here's a project I'm working on using a heat transfer chamber which uses coolant as heat. Here's a picture where I tapped in on the plumbing on top of the motor!! [/b] Later Bob

Re: single carb intake /two barrel holly
Update on where to tap in,.....what you need is a high output and a low input! In the previous post I tried this and didn't get a good result only a warm heat chamber. This is what I did, I plugged the inlet by the thermostat and used only one at the rear of the plumbing. I bought a spacer for the bottom between the water pump housing and hose inlet. In the spacer I tapped an outlet which is the higher pressure for a better flow and used the inlet at the rear where it recycles back into the system at a slower flow, resulating in an extremely HOT coolant chamber!! I also added a shut off for the summer use!! So I hope this helps because it has for me!!
Later, Bob

Re: single carb intake /two barrel holly
Bob that really looks like a good idea. I've seen various takes on this and wondered how they were overcoming the flow/pressure differential. Your's takes that into consideration. Nicely done.

Re: single carb intake /two barrel holly
Sorry about getting back to ya!! The spacer is for a big block chevy,......
cough, cough....... By Moroso Kit 63610, Waterpump Spacer. They usually cost around $40 and you get two. I did an alt. conversion on my bike and was lucky enough to have bought just one from another guy who did the alt conversion too. I needed it because I moved the Rad. out about 3/4 in. Hope this helps, Later
Bob
