slight oil burning at start up, NORMAL?

#1

Post by semerm »

I have a 76 gl1000 that I have put about 250 miles on the bike so far (new to me) but the clock says 45000 miles. It has just started to puff a little oil at start up. Afterwards it does not do it (after 30 seconds or so). Is this a sign the rings are suspected, valves? any way to tell without a engine pull?

That is very normal for these bikes. I just replaced my valve guide seals and mine has stopped for a while but it will be back. That is the nature of a horizontal engine. Nothing to worry about. Sometimes parking on the center stand can reduce it some.

its under the rubber boot by your right heel when on the bike.
