Howdy,
New to this site looks great...! I was wondering if anyone has made any simple exhaust modifications thier 80-83 models and what kind of results were accomplished - looking to make it sound just a little throater without having to cut into the system.

I purchased me a set off screaming eagles pretty cheap. all i have to do is fabricate me a bracket and make two small cuts and they will slip right on there. I wont be able to start on it right now. but whenever i do i will post pictures.

Well, I drilled out the cap on my factories and then pulled out the fiberglass batting from the mufflers.. Took a few minutes of revving her to blow out the crap... Brought about a decent low throaty roar... Looking to slap on some jardines during my winter downtime,..

rear most baffles ...

Post by jeff413 »

has anyone tried to remove the rear most baffle from thier stock muff's - Looks like you would drill out the revit and give it a pull . But some how life doesn't seem that simple.

rvtechA1----you trashed Factory mufflers?

As for those factory pipes, yes, I trashed them.. It was more of a salvage mission than anything else.. they were in a terrible state... previous owner had them off and the fiberglass was ruined....left bank did more to block flow than muffle.. was causing more runnability grief, so I bought a 2nd factory set, and have them sitting in the garage.. They are still too pretty, and my present home has me driving her about 6-7 miles on dirt each way on my daily commute...

In retrospect, I trashed junk...

As for trying to remove? As yoda said, their is no try, only do...
Meaning that once you gut it, there is no going back..LOL

What about swapping pipes from model to model. Do they interchange at all? Like will a set of head pipes from a GL1100 or GL1200 fit the GL1000?

I put the slashdown jardines that are for 1000 on my 1100. I had to weld a couple of nuts together to provide the 1/4" drop at the rear mount and fab a 2" long bracket for the bump stop for the center stand. But, otherwise they bolted right up. I dont know if you can interchange 1200 pipes to a 1000 or not.

Thanks for the info Mike. The bike I'm looking at, the exhaust is being held together with the paint. You can literally see right through the pipes.

OK, Let me see if I get this right. The headpipes from a GL1100 will bolt directly onto a GL1000 with no loss of the centerstand.
