How to install a slide on 30 amp main breaker

Post by Cookie »

I have been using screw on breakers but they are a bit more difficult to install. I thought I'd try a slide terminal one as it does not require any modification and can very easily be reversed. Someday people are going to be looking for those silly original Honda main fuses and fuse boxes.
I laid it out on the bench with a clean fuse holder. When compared to my bike 12 gauge wire was correct. I used heavy duty terminals and soldered and shrink wrapped after crimping. A little extra wire makes the bend back to the fuse holder easy.

Next comes attaching the wires, I used ring terminals but fork terminals would be an easier install.

With the wires aligned straight up and down the box cover goes back on and it can go back in its clip. One wire tie secures the breaker and the wires are tucked out of the way.

I should point out the the breaker should flash off and on even if you have a bad short. I've never had to replace one but if you wanted to carry a spare you would not need much room.

Nice! I did the same thing, also with ring terminals; the forked can slide out...

i have several slide on type on cyborg. have been on for years, thousands of miles, in all types of weather, and have never had one come loose. all my circuits are controled by breakers and relays. never had a problem.
