Took a ride today up towards the North Georgia Mountains. I was on the 78 GL1000 that I brought back from the dead over the last 10 months or so. I have put about 700 local miles on her since getting her back on the road but this was the first "fun ride". My wife rides a 97 Virago 535 and has ridden all over the area so we just decided to ride to Helen, GA as we have done many times. There are many ways to get there and this time was kind of direct. We left Helen and went to Hawg Wild BBQ in Clarkesville, GA for supper. Great place to eat!!
When we got back home, she said "That was a really nice ride!! Temperatures were just right and I really had fun." Not bad for a 58 year young woman who learned to ride at about 51 and is on her fourth bike. She started on a Virago 535 then to an 800 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 then a Vulcan 900LT and finally back to a Virago 535. She is 5'4 and weighs all of 115#. She has ridden my Vulcan 1500 and Vulcan 1600 with no problems. She is quite the woman!!
The GL1000 performed flawlessly. Plenty of power, wind and bumps!! I still have a few more things to do to finish her up but I am riding and in no hurry. My Restoration thread is listed under StevenM. Oh, by the way, I just picked up a 82 GL500 Silverwing Interstate for her to accompany my Classic Wing on our riding adventures. She's gonna love it!!!! I hope.....
Anyway, thanks for letting me sound off about our day. Kinda is what riding is all about, yes?

Sharing the experience is definitely part of the fun.

Re: Had a nice ride today!!!
Offered to get my wife a bike of her own (she used to ride) and she always says no ... says, when I'm riding on the back I get to enjoy all the scenery, why would I want to give that up.
Enjoyed your ride report and have a small amount of envy about the BBQ ... can't get really good BBQ in Pennsylvania.
