Rolling Thunder Ohio to DC

#1

Post by Rowdy-Ohio »

:crosso Packed my camping gear and took off to DC for Rolling Thunder with 6 other bikers from Central Ohio :)
Stoped every 100 miles for the Harley riders and to accomadate the smaller tanks
Departed around 10:00 arrived around 8:00 after a slight detour (Can't trust them GPS)
Camped at the American Legion down the street from the Marine Corp Museum in Quantico.

anim-cheers1 Good time meeting fellow veterans of all ages and services action1

Did visit the Marine Corps Museum - cool place, went to the Marine Barracks in DC and watched the Marine Corps Band & the Silent Drill Team - great performance, impressive even if it was raining :-?

Went down town DC the day before and seen the Iwo Jima Monument, the wall, the Korean monument ect - lousy place to be riding motorcycles when you don't know the area, we got sidetracked several times

Did I mention I had to sleep in my rain gear one night - the NEW tent just could not hold out the rain :-?

Then we tried going downtown DC for the parade, followed in behind a larger group of about 100 bikes in Quantico. After manuvering over 3 lanes of highway traffic, we rounded a truck then all we could see was 100 bike brake lights comming on  Most of us got slowed down and off the highway, unfortunetly this one bike hit the back of the other bike and down he went :( Had the emergency squad check him out, took him to hospital, he turned out to be ok, some road rash & bruises action1 then we had to get the bikes off the highway, fortunetly them Harley riders had a trailer following the group  We where able to do some minor repairs to the 2 bikes and both where able to ride their bikes back to Ohio dancr

Of cource on the way back, my cell phone decided to jump ship some where along Highway 70 crossy.gif so I suspect it was :flamer fried confused22
